FINALS WEEK!

Okay so the week of finals is normally called Hell Week. But this semester finals so far have been really really easy. I have gotten four out of my seven finals done. Those finals were my Kinesiology, Math 125, Swimming, and English. All I have left are History 150, LGT, and Computer science.

The Only finals that I really have to study for is History 150 and Computer Science. Other then that everything has be flying colors. My easiest final was Swimming. Here was my test.

Yep the third question was not even a question!

During finals week at work I have to work two different shifts. I worked Monday 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and I work the same time today. Working on campus has it's advantages and its disadvantages. But it is work so I really can not complain.

Moving On Up

Today my teacher asked out class if we thought that we were ready to move on to English 104. after she asked this question I really got to thinking if I really was or not. This started to scare me a little bit. I automatically started to think about the writing competency exam next year. Now I am nervous.

After class I had a meeting with my teacher to see where I am at in my writing and how I am feeling about my writing. throughout the meeting see told me that I was a pretty good writer. The fact that I am not stuck on my words meaning that I am open for change make me somewhat unique. She says thins but in my head, I am thinking that I am more narrow mind when it comes to writing. But her tell me these, make me feel a little more self confident. Towards the end of the meeting I had to ask my teacher if she thought that if I were to take the writing competency now if I would pass. she told me that I would do pass. Then she gave me some advise on what to do to ready myself for the test next year.


After the meeting with my teacher I was ready to answer the question on if I am ready to move on to English 104. My answer is YES, I am ready to move on up to 104. I feel that I am confident enough to do well in that class. I now cannot wait for next year to come around and start a new adventure in English.

Another Week In Class

So class this week has been a real battle for me. When you do the same thing over and over again it starts to get really boring. What am I to do in this situation?

I walk into class every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with an Ice Moca coffee in my hand so get some energy for the rest of my day. Normally this does not kick in till after my English class.

In class this week we are doing the same thing that we did last week, Workshopping. This is boring when you are not the one reading or being the discussion leader. All I have to do is sit there listen and follow along with the person who gets to read their paper that day. Then I give them my feedback on what I thought of the paper and what they could do to improve that paper. when I do this my other class mates look at me as if I don't really know what I am talking about. This just makes me not want to help them out.

On Wednesday we talked about how to write sentences and the different kinds of sentences. This made me feel like I was in middle school again. I mean yeah it is helpful to be reminded of what we are doing wrong with them. I don;t know anymore. I think that my brain is just ready for a nice long break, aka SUMMER!!!

Over all this week I have just been really really bored out of my mind. My brain needs something fun to do. Lets play a game or something to get out brains having fun and not so bored.

Workshopping

So this week in English, our class had print off 15 copies of a paper that we wanted to read in front of class that we thought that we would have the most trouble on. We do this so that we can hear what our own papers sound like and so that our classmates can gives us some really good feedback. This method of revision is called "Workshopping".

When I read my paper out load it sounded really choppy. It sounded even worse because I stuttered quit a bit when reading it. Even thought this was an extremely horrific experience, it helped me no how to really improve my paper. I got a lot of feed back from everyone. After I got back all the feed back, I went to work on improving my paper.I think that this will be one of my best papers that I have ever written. I am pretty happy with my success.

Next week I am going to go to the Writing Center to do this workshopping thing on my other papers. We will see how that goes next week. I hope that it will go well. I really hate doing revisions so workshopping is the best way for me to understand what I did wrong and how I should fix it.

Another Relaxing Week

This week in English class has so far been another really relaxing week. This week and last week, I would have to say have been my favorite times in and out of class. To bad class is not going to stay like this for long. It is back to work next week.:(

Monday in class all but one team presented their Facebook fan pages. Everyone did a very good job on their fan pages. Almost everyone had pictures of their place. Some groups had some videos, like ours did. Everyone that presented had a good amount of fans but our Atrium page had the most of 345 fans. The pages had some good and bad comments on them too. Over all so far this group project has been a good experience.

Wednesday all I can really say is that we did not have class do to the fact that our teacher Karen had to grade our timed writing with a bunch of other teachers. Not having class is awesome! I got so much done with in the time that I would of had class. I really did not have too much to do though. :)

In class on Friday the last group will present their fan page. Our two page paper over what we thought about this project and the people in the groups, is due today via email. Then we will start talking about our portfolios. I have not yet picked the three papers that I want to revise and put into my portfolio. Decisions, decisions. I think that doing our portfolios will not be too terribly bad. They will be annoying as hell but somewhat easy.

So this week has totally been a relaxation week. I LOVE IT! It was just what I needed. I think that is what most of the people in the class needed. To bad that we will most likely never have this again before the end of this semester. What a bummer.

This Week In Class

This past week in class we got a lot done but it was pretty laid back. Having a week that is pretty laid back takes a lot of stress of my chest. I love it!

On Monday, March 22nd our class met up in the library in the the map room. The map room has about every map you can think of. and if they do not have the kind of map that you need you can also make your own map. The Ladies that work in the map room can help you with anything that you need help on. You can print large maps and laminate them at a very low price. We learned how to locate maps and how to use them on the computer. This is suppose to help a little bit with our group project.

On Wednesday, March 24 our class met up in the normal classroom. We talked a little bit what we will do on Friday and then about what we are going to have to do on Monday. After our teacher talked, the class got into there groups and worked on our fan pages and talked about how we are going to present our fan pages. Our group this weekend is going to the Atrium to take pictures and do so interviews. Our fan pages is going to be great. I am so proud of how our page is turning out so far.

The today Friday, March 26 we had to do a time writing in class, which is required. This timed writing sucks! I hate only having 45 mins to think of what to do then get write. It takes me about so mins to just think up on how to write the paper then it take me how ever long to actually write the paper well. So when I am rushed the paper will turn out like crap. So good thing that we are not really getting a grade on how well we wrote the paper.

All in all i think that it was a pretty good week. Now I am ready to sit back and relax for the rest of my weekend.

Group Project on the Ball State Atrium

I did some observing on Wednesday the 17th at 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Atrium. It was around breakfast and lunch and is was very busy. The Atrium is one of the biggest hangout spots here along with Bracken Library and the Irving Gym. The Atrium is beautiful inside and out.

Many people like to meet up here to talk and have fun with friends, family and teachers. Students like to do there homework in this environment because it is somewhat peaceful with all of the plants and music around you. Teacher come to the Atrium to enjoy lunch with other teachers and sometimes they meet up with student to help them with class stuff.

While I was eating my breakfast and observing my surroundings a girl came over and sat next to me and she interduced herself. We sat there and talked for a while about classes and stuff that has been going around on campus. She was a very pleasant person. But I think that she thought that I was all lonely sitting by myself eating. If so it was very nice of her. This just tells me that some of the people that come here are not afraid to meet new people. When I looked around I saw some people that were kind of to themselves too. This inspired me. I went up to the first person that I saw and I asked them what did they like about the Atrium. This person told me that they like the people and some of the activities that they have here like the post-sales and the bake-sales.

This was an over all good observation for me. It was interesting to here what people thought about the Atrium and to see what all can go down there. I will do some more observing this week to see if anything new happen.

SO TIRED!!!

So the past two week have been really long and tiresome! I keep thinking of Spring Break so it make my days longer and longer but I cannot help it. I feel like I have so much to get done in such a short time, but it is not short it takes for ever!

The past week in class we have been working on Project 3 which is on an issue that we think that is important. I choose Elkhart Indiana and how we are in an economic dilemma. Poor Elkhart! We had to find 4 secondary sources but I found about 13 great sources. This helped me a lot to have all of those sources. I could write a good 10 page paper with all of the sources that I found but my paper had to be half of that so it was easy. The problem that I had with my paper though is that I feel that it is very repetitive but I think that it sounds ok too. What a dilemma! We did our peer review today so we will see what they said that could help me and my teacher is going to look over it too.

I am so tired of school right now! I need this Break that is coming up in two days. I'm not going anywhere special so I am just going to go home and just relax, maybe catch up on some sleep and catch up with some friends and family.

A Night with Ted Koppel

On Feb. 23 @ 7:30 pm in Pruis Hall there was the speaker Ted Koppel. Ted Koppel is a very famous man in the Journalism World. Ted Koppel was a very interesting man. He was funny and boring at the same time.

Ted started off the night with a pretty funny joke. I loved it! After his brilliant introduction he made it quite clear that this night was not going to be speaking the whole time, because that would be boring, but it was going to be a night about asking some questions to get some answers. I think that was a really good idea to keep the people interested and not fall asleep.

Ted had talked a little bit before he started the questions about money and war. Things that are important today. He explained was a trillion dollars deficit was and how long it take to get to that amount. He also kind of explained the war in Iraq and what is going in on there and telling us that it was a need. Some of what he was saying was confusing but amusing.

Almost all of the question that the people asked I did not understand. That would probably be because I am not a big media fan like over half of the people there. The only thing that I could understand was when he talked about the difference between Fact and Truth. He said what if Obama said that Ted Koppel was a drug dealer. The fact would be that Obama said it but that does not mean it would be the truth. I thought that was a great example. It was clear and to the point.

All in all Ted had kept my interest even though out the whole night even though I did not understand most of what he was saying.I would not mind listening to him talk on Night Line or National Public Radio (NPR).

Reading Aloud

On Monday February 15, in English we all had to do a peer review on our papers. The way that we did peer review was way out of my comfort zone. All I could think was OH...MY...GOODNESS!

We had to read our papers out loud to our partner and they had to tell us what they thought of it. I also was able to ask question about my own paper to get some more feed back. But that didn't go as well that I hoped that it would. But to get back on track with what I as trying to say... I felt like I was going to cry when reading my paper out loud. I stutter really bad when I read aloud to other people that is not my mom. I can talk out loud about things like a speech but when it comes to me having to read something weather it is a book or a paper that I wrote, I would rather die! Metaphorically speaking.

The only good thing that happened in that class was, while I was reading out loud to my partner our teacher played some really good music. That helped drown out from hearing other. I was really happy that no one else could hear me but the one person that I HAD to read it to.

I really hope that we never have to do that again. I am one of those people that like to doing thing on their own. I love to read on my own but I just simply have a problem when it comes to reading out loud to others. AHHHH!!!!

Art Reach

Starting in the summer of 2008 an art program was started call the Art Reach Program. The seniors of 2008 and the art teachers are that ones that started the program. I was one of those seniors. It was made to be like a summer school program so the students can get a credit for it.


The first project was a mural downtown Elkhart on the Elkhart Chamber Plaza. The mural is of an over all history of Elkhart from that tribes that use to be there to the children of today. The picture at the top left of this blog is a picture of the mural. This is that image that I am using for project 2 in my English for community values. I feel that this is the perfect image to show community values.


This is the second mural that was done in the summer of 2009. This is a copy of a photo of what Elkhart used to look like way back when. This painting is still on the history of Elkhart but more specific to what it use to look like back in the day. I believe that this mural looks much better then the first one done in 2008. I say this because we knew how to do it now so it came out better. I plan on adding this mural on to my paper later on in the year.

Project 1 (Multiculturism)

Being a new student in this class is hard because I do not know what to expect and I do not know how I am suppose to do things. Everything is so different, from my precious class, that it is extremely difficult to try to change how I write to the new criteria.

The past two weeks we had to work on "Project One". This project was over multiculturalism. Can you say boring! This project was very difficult to do. It took me a while to figure out how to write this paper from start to finish. Then when it came to the revision part of the paper I wanted to scream! I was so confused on what to do and how to change things without having to do drastic changes. But I finally sat down read it over and over till I figured it out.

I really hope that my paper turns out satisfactory enough to get at least a "B". I have never really done well in English. I always try my hardest to do the best that I can in the class but it is stressfuly hard. Well Project One is over with now and on to the next stressful one. WISH ME LUCK!

My Personality Code Go Figure

This is what my personality code tell me that I am. What they came up with is all true. It is a little weird but oh well I now know my personality Code and I can come to terms with who I am. I did some research in INFJ's and it says that I should follow my heart to what career that "I" feel that I could have fun doing and have a lot of insight on. Some people say that we have a strong sense of personal integrity and that we can drive to help others realize their own creativity. In relationships INFJ's are said to be encouraging of their partners’ dreams and accomplishments.Popular hobbies for the INFJ include writing, art, culture, reading, and playing or listening to music.

Some interesting facts about INFJ are that they are the least common type in the population. They are among highest of all types in college GPA. Then lastly they are most likely to stay in college.

The begining of Stress

So I am now in the second week of school now and the stress is starting to creep up more and more. The homework is starting to pack on more as the weeks go on. Then on top of the homework I have to get some study time in and I also have to work so I can pay for school.

Being in a new English class is very hard. the expectations are quite different and assignments are more different then i am use to. It is going to take a while to get into the swing of things. This first paper that I am working on I have know clue if I am even doing it right but I guess that I will find out next Friday when we have the peer review.

History is a class that will kick my butt! I have never really been good at history so I am going to have to get some extra help and read a lot. So far so good! Then there is Math. I normally do pretty well in math, with some help of friends. The math class that I am in now is very easy but I get a lot of homework for over the weekends.

Then there is work. There is nothing good about work at all, except that I have to do it so I can pay for my schooling. There are some day where I have fun at work but that is very rare.
I just have to get use to these things even though it is a pain in my butt. I love my busy life even though it is full of unwanted stress.

Martin Luther King Jr. Concert

I had a really great experience at the 3rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. concert at Ball State University. After his assassination on April 4, 1968 there were still many controversies. There even controversies here in Muncie. At the concert they had showed some clips of professors being interviewed about some of the controversies that had been going on at Ball State. So all in all got to learn some Ball State history while celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.

At the concert there were many different cultural performances. Everything was very well put together. All of the singers and performers looked and sounded great! They were absolutely amazing. The people that sat around kept saying that, "That was just beautiful". It made me smile that everyone there was in such aw. Well over half of the people that attended this concert was so into the performances that they would stand up and sing along to some of the songs.

To recapitulate everything was just simply perfect.
